@Asif Iqbal, I think CCP has taken notice of the crisis and started its inquiry against the CNG Owners. If it finds that there has been an act of collusion on part of the CNG Owners Association, then it will take a strong action.

We are more befuddled with abrusd discussions rather being eloquent in things which are proved well world over. Free trade is not the part of problem but a active ingredient of solution for prosperity. This assists local industries to be more competitive and growth of service sector. We argue our industry will demolish as we more open up in trade, what wrong with such industry which can't compete on international level. let it demolish and let our investors to think where they are enough competent to compete. Free trade make a country technologically advanced. China experience being technologically backward to United States is evident of its close policies. We should move towards free trade. There will be nothing wrong, even being pessimistic the least good will be, common citizen of this country will enjoy cheaper goods who is suffering since 1947.

Clearly the writer has not read up on or researched the horrendous track record Monsanto has with manipulating the BT seed market in not just third world countries, but also in the United States. <del datetime="2012-03-19T19:46:28+00:00">He comes off as naive in the article, or perhaps his true allegiance lays with Monsanto is some way, shape or form hence he paints an innocent enough picture of the meddling giant. </del>

He should be reminded that any BT seed developed in a test lab in a Pakistani university doesn't have the same megalomania that Monsanto has in marketing and selling its seeds.

Mr. Zubair Malik raises an important point by pointing out towards the concentration of roles in CAA. That may well be a reason of the problems pointed out earlier. One wonders how the Civil Aviation Authorities in other countries are organized with respect to division of responsibilities.

Sorry the distance between Dubai and Lahore may be the same but the fuel consumption does not depend only on tail wind and speed there are other factors to, like type of aircraft, load factor, number and type of engines, weather , cruising spped and altitude etc etc. So you see the amount of fuel consumed in each case will differ, skilled and unskilled manpower per aircraft also adds up to the cost factor like our national airline has nearly 450 person per aircraft whereas average employment is around 150 to 165 person per aircraft. Yes I do agree Civil Aviation charges are exorbitant and that is the major reason we have lost many airline who know prefer landings at Bombay and New Delhi instead of Karachi and Lahore. Its only in Pakistan that the Civil Aviation Authority is assuming multiple roles e.g. Operator, Regulator and Investigator. Pakistan does have Open Sky Policy like Dubai but it has failed to reap the benefits of open sky policies Why ? making policy is one thing and implementing that policy is another ! In Pakistan we believe in concentration of power and authority in one hand in this case Civil Aviation Authority. till be start believing in deregulation and sharing of responsibility , building institutions and not individuals nothing will change no matter how good the Policy may be .

I have read and enjoyed all 3 reports on the talks by Tom Palmer. I thank EFN for taking the 'first crucial steps' in starting a dialogue on the morality of Capitalism. I do not have any issues with Tom since I am a 'follower'. However, I was disappointed but not surprized by some of the positions of what could be considered Pakistan's cosmopolitan elite.
The philosophical underpinnings of capitalism, free trade and may I add my favorite, low taxation are ideas and not country specific. Hence it would have been more effective to delink current and historical grievances against the US and the British Raj respectively and present an intellect based argument against capitalism. It may be useful to note that todays icons of free trade, capitalism and low taxes are led by Hong Kong (where I worked for two years) and Singapore (where I am working for the past 15 months) and not the US or UK. It is Hong Kong and Singapore that consistently top global rankings for growth, per capita income and opportunity. It is also not the fault of the US, the British Raj and MNCs that Paksitan's literacy rate hovers at a dismal 50% after 64 years of independence. My point being when will Pakistanis take responsibility for their acts and omissions instead of playing the victim card.
In an intellect based discourse, if Pakistan's educated elite disagrees with a premise, let them challenge it with a better template whose performance is verified and recognized. If they are unable to present it and Pakistanis still want prosperity, it would be in its self-interest to learn, follow and embrace the guiding principles of successful systems, whatever they are called and wherever they are practised.
Hence I support the efforts of EFN Pakistan to constantly educate its economic/political /opinion leadership with numerous consistent data points linking policy with successful outcomes.

Though I missed this interesting and healthy discussion on the topic of Globalisation Is Great, The blog posted by the author seem's highly baised towards Tom Palmer. No matter whatever Dr. Abdullah said we as a Freedomgater and believers of Economic Freedom should not view responses as discomfort, emotional and personalised because thats what they usually are and thats what we have to learn, respect and live with, because thats the beauty of freedom of speech and thought. What really matters is the content and meat in the response and how much its relevant to the Topic under discussion. From difference of opinion emerges consensus.
